“You can't go back and change the beginning,
but you can start where you are and change the ending.”
-CS Lewis
Let therapy be one place
you can truly come as you are.
my approach
I’m not here to judge you. Everyone struggles in their own way, and sometimes things just spiral to the point where it begins to feel out of control. The first step to stopping the spiral is just acknowledging that things have gone sideways, and allowing someone to join you in trying to figure it out.
That’s where I enter: I can come in with fresh eyes on the problem and on you (we all get tired of ourselves, at some point others may be able to see us more clearly than we can see ourselves). I’m pragmatic, nonjudgmental, and wildly curious; I can be gentle even when I’m pressing you, and I can come up with 100 different ways to untangle the knots you’ve encountered.
I’ll bring my creativity, my complete and careful attention, and a big old toolbag of techniques that we can try out. We’ll create a safe space where you can unpack the burdens that are getting too heavy; we’ll sort through it all with kindness and compassion, and learn some new ways to hold it that feel easier and lighter.
I will help by holding you accountable to your goals, encouraging you to embrace mistakes, and reminding you of your resilience. Over time, you'll learn that it's okay (and, surprise, inevitable!) not to have everything under control, and you’ll build confidence in your capacity to take challenges in stride and keep on trucking.
I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start over again.”
- F. Scott Fitzgerald
COLLABORATIVE
I’ll meet you where you are and work hard to find the goals that are truly meaningful to you. Together we will find the strategies that fit your unique style and use them in ways that make sense to you.
My style of therapy is…
NON-JUDGMENTAL
We will find creative ways to harness the power of being exactly who and how you are (it’s there!). You will learn to shed shame and turn towards the obstacles that emerge with curiosity and compassion.
PRAGMATIC
Sometimes we’ll delve fearlessly into the deep, and other times we will script how to say no to your boss, draft the email that says what you really mean, or hash out a concrete solution to a pressing and thorny problem.
FLEXIBLE
I’m familiar with the full alphabet soup of clinical approaches (CBT, EMDR, and IFS are favorites) but these are just different doors to the same room. I’ll adapt to whatever works best to help you move towards your goals.
Change can be uncomfortable,
but so is staying stuck.
